Bats bring up bad images for you??? Dracula, scary movies, etc. Well, you really need to get over it! Thing is, they really are a great defense for an over population of mosquito’s and all other flying insects that drive you into the house! Yep, because that is their main diet!
If you ever get the chance, go to Austin downtown, and check out the Congress Avenue Bridge or to Mason to the James River Bat Cave. It is unbelievable! The Mexican Free Tailed bats come out at dusk like a tornado. They fly just above the tree line, dine on all things ‘buggy’ and return just before dawn. No, they’re not the most adorable little creatures but they have a job and they do it well.
Another pretty cool thing you can do if you have acreage on your property, put up bat boxes. It is better than “Off – bug spray.” When we purchased our property, we had about 3 of them we would see everything night that lived under the huge culvert. It never concerned me for a minute, and I appreciate the natural bug defense job they did! Now if they just had something for snakes! I really do not like snakes!!!
Pretty cool article from Texas AgriLife you would like to read more information about these guys. https://agrilifetoday.tamu.edu/2020/10/29/bat-week-an-opportunity-to-separate-fears-from-facts/
